MidTerm Periodic Review Meeting – Positive Feedback for SEED-FD

On 23 July 2025, the SEED-FD research project – which aims to advance the prediction of floods and droughts globally – reached a milestone with its MidTerm Periodic Review Meeting. According to the reviewers, SEED-FD is moving in the right direction. They were pleased with the strong collaboration, good progress, and shared ideas to increase the long-term impact of SEED-FD beyond the project timeline.

SEED-FD MidTerm Periodic Review Meeting

The meeting brought together consortium members from Magellium, ECMWF, IIASA, CNR-IRPI, ICPAC, vorteX-io, PoLiMi, Design & Data, and the JRC, as well as an expert appointed by the European Commission and a representative of HaDEA (European Health and Digital Executive Agency), to reflect on recent developments in the project.

The consortium presented progress across key areas, including:

  • Integration of new hydrological data
  • Improvements of the LISFLOOD hydrological model
  • New methods to predict a broader range of extreme weather events
  • Enhancements to the CEMS forecasting system for floods and droughts

The reviewers appreciated the project’s good progress and the strong teamwork among the partners – including collaboration with other EU projects such as CENTAUR. Their feedback included suggestions for increasing visibility and building connections with user communities worldwide.

The MidTerm Review confirmed that the project is well positioned to deliver on this ambition. With valuable feedback and continued strong collaboration, SEED-FD will now focus on demonstrating and validating its solutions in diverse regions worldwide – laying the groundwork for a lasting contribution to global climate resilience.
